About Sandi Duverneuil

Sandi Duverneuil Ms. Duverneuil has extensive experience in international education and publishing. Originally from New York, she completed her undergraduate degree in Linguistics and East Asian Studies at l'université de Montréal in Montréal, Québec (Canada).

Having transferred from Brandeis University (Waltham, MA) where she participated in international student orientation, she recognized a need to improve the international student orientation program at l'université de Montréal. To that end, she recruited volunteer international student orientation aides and developed a comprehensive, yet individualized orientation program. To further improve international student services, she participated in the first Operation Campus where federal and provincial immigration officials reviewed students' visa renewals on campus.

In 2003, she completed her master's in Social Policy with an emphasis in international education. As part of her degree requirement, she completed a practicum in international education at George Mason University's Office of International Programs & Services.

Her mentor recommended she apply to the JET programme. In August 2003, Ms. Duverneuil and her family moved to Fukuoka, Japan where she taught English as a Foreign Language to junior high school students. Ms. Duverneuil has presented workshops for incoming JET programme participants in Tokyo and Fukuoka. She has been profiled in Jichitaikokusai Forum magazine.
